Preliminary Agenda
Make plans now to attend the annual Fall Seminar, scheduled
this year to take place at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina on
October 1, 2010. Both the written materials and oral presentations are
designed specifically for the defense attorney membership, as well as the
insurance claims professionals who traditionally comprise a significant
percentage of the seminar attendees. In addition to the seminar topics and
scheduled networking opportunities, the Fall Seminar will also include a
Judicial Candidates Forum. This is one of only a few opportunities
statewide judicial candidates have to appear together in front of an audience
including voters, such as lawyers and claims professionals, who have both an
interest in and knowledge of the judicial system. Often the forum attracts
media attention, and is always highly informative and enjoyable for those in
attendance.
Planning for the seminar has being taking place for many
months. John Connell will give us his unique perspective as the Clerk of
the NC Court of Appeals regarding the newly-enacted changes to the Rules of
Appellate Procedure. Don Cowan will once again present his wildly popular
update on recent appellate decisions of relevance. Most of the NCADA practice
groups will offer breakout sessions with speakers and topics geared to their
more specific practice areas. In addition, experienced trial attorneys
Allen Smith and Jeremy Stephenson will speak on the trial of punitive damages
claims and insurance coverage for employee layoff claims, respectively.
In conjunction with this year’s Fall Seminar, the North
Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys will hold its fifth Judicial
Candidates’ Forum in conjunction with its annual Fall Seminar.
The Forum will feature judicial candidates running in statewide elections
for seats on the North Carolina Supreme Court and the North Carolina Court of
Appeals members of the public and the defense bar an opportunity to learn about
the candidates who wish to serve the state at the appellate court level.
The Fall Seminar will be an event chock-full of education,
fellowship and fun that you will not want to miss!
