Our Mission Statement –

The North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys brings together civil trial attorneys to promote the administration of justice, the exchange of information, ideas, and litigation techniques, and to strengthen the practice, improve the skills, and enhance the knowledge of lawyers defending individuals and businesses in North Carolina.

"We have moved from an organization of mostly insurance defense attorneys to a broad based association of litigators who represent business and industry throughout the state. We have transitioned from an association that had very little visibility or recognition to one that is considered the voice of the defense bar and for business and industry. We have become a bar association that is looked to by the judiciary and the legislature for advice and support."
                                                                         Mel J. Garofalo
                                                                         President, 2005-2006

Excerpt from President’s comments, The Defender, Winter 2006

"The role of the defense lawyer in representing business and industry is to help the jury understand the role of business in society and protect it in spite of what the public perception might be. A good defense lawyer has to use good trial skills and good communications skills in order to overcome negative perception."
                                                                         D. Clark Smith, Jr.
                                                                         President, 2002-2003

Excerpt from June 2003 Special Section Supplement of North Carolina Magazine
